Charity Work

Raising awareness of animal welfare:

One of our aims at The Vet on Richmond Hill is to help improve the welfare of all animals and reduce unnecessary suffering of animal within our care, local communities and the wider world. We have enormous respect and admiration for the volunteers that give up their time to help charities to protect animals that are sadly neglected, mistreated or abandoned. We have pledged our support to help as much as we can, building close relationships with several charities – providing heavily discounted services and medicines, and several fundraising activities.

Working alongside these charities we have helped to care for many sick and injured animals around the world, giving them an opportunity to find a home with a loving family.

Supporting local animals:

Protected Paws Animal Rescue is a charity we are proud to support. They provide shelter, medical care as well as a rehoming service for every unwanted pet crossing their doors.
We help Protected Paws by offering reduced rates on procedure such as neutering, dentals and other surgeries as well as provide support for last-minute emergency operations.

Jack's incredible recovery:

Meet Jack Johansen, a cat from Protected Paws Animal Rescue, who was admitted into one of our 24 Hour hospitals in Streatham. Having been involved in a road traffic accident, poor Jack’s life hung in the balance. Using our state-of-the-art CT scan, our vet team was able to determine Jack had deep depression fractures on the face and a pneumothorax on the chest. Their amazing vets Pagaen, Lara and Rachel had to act fast and transferred him to intensive care where his right eye was removed, a tube fitted for feeding and wires were placed to help his jaw stabilise.
Thanks to the care given by their fantastic team as well as their intense monitoring, where Jack’s pneumothorax was drained a few times, the team managed to get him back home safe and sound!

If you’d like to help this amazing cause, here’s a link to their Fundraising page.

We are also proudly supporting Street Vet, a wonderful charity which operates by offering free accessible vet care to pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness throughout the UK.

Their team of volunteers work tirelessly to make sure all pets living on the streets are taken care of. On our side, we offer them support by standing at the ready whenever they need to refer a pet urgently for any hospitalisation or surgery procedure.

Our involvement with Jai Dog:

We are a proud ambassador of Jai Dog Rescue, a wonderful charity dedicated to transforming the lives of street dogs in Thailand by bringing them the care and attention they so desperately need. Their efforts in making sure these dogs stay healthy and are rehomed make us extremely proud to be a part of their fight.

Also, for each appointment you’ve had at our surgery, we donate 50p to Jai Dogs so that you can also contribute to this beautiful cause.

Our fundraising for WVS:

Every year since 2019, our founder Dane Walker has been raising money for WVS (Worldwide Veterinary Service) Thailand with a Swimathon which so far raised £26,000.

This cause is close to Dane’s heart, having volunteered in Thailand at the beginning of his career.

In Chiang Mai, Thailand, WVS runs the only treatment centre and shelter for all street dogs in their region. They are doing such an amazing job saving homeless and neglected dogs, and we couldn’t be prouder to support them each and every year.

Our team in Mumbai for Mission Rabies:

WVS

Our dedication to support this incredible charity didn’t stop there. Practice Managers Alison, Luke and Paul, were recently part of the WVS Mission Rabies initiative in Mumbai where they helped vaccinate more than 26,000 dogs!

Globally, rabies still claims the lives of approximately 59,000 people each year, with a staggering 20,000 of these fatalities occurring in India. Mission Rabies identifies rabies hotspots and organizes mass vaccination and education programmes – protecting both the human and canine populations. We are extremely proud to support the WVS and its Mission Rabies initiative to help put a stop to rabies for good and cannot wait to be involved in their next initiative.
